L. Peter WrenL. Peter Wren LCDR USNR ret: Peter, a retired U. S. Navy lieutenant commander, is author of two self-published books, Those in Peril on the Sea (1999) and We Were There (2002). The latter book was inspired by his World War II experience as a young officer aboard the USS Bassett in July 1945, when he helped rescue survivors of the USS Indianapolis, sunk by a Japanese submarine just days after delivering the Hiroshima atomic bomb to Tinian Island. A third book, World War II Revisited, is due July 2005. Peter's current speaking topic is the USS Indianapolis tragedy, and it touches on many untold stories by the rescued and others. He has spoken at Navy functions, ship reunions, and patriotic affairs. He is a member of the VWC and is a past president of the U.S. Navy League, Richmond Council.
